New Research Highlights Benefits of NaProTechnology for Infertility

For many couples struggling with infertility, the search for answers can be overwhelming. This is largely due to the fact most reproductive issues are rarely caused by a single factor. In many couples, multiple conditions may be affecting the chances of conception. Hormonal imbalances, endometriosis, ovulatory disorders, uterine issues, tubal dysfunction, endometrial abnormalities, lifestyle issues, and male factor infertility can occur together in couples experiencing reproductive issues, making a comprehensive evaluation essential.

Unlike treatments that focus solely on achieving pregnancy, Natural Procreative Technology (NaProTechnology) focuses on identifying and treating factors affecting healthy fertility.

NaProTechnology utilizes the Creighton Model FertilityCare System of biomarker charting to monitor and evaluate the female cycle.  Treatment plans are individualized and may include lifestyle changes, supplemental and nutritional guidance, targeted diagnostic testing, medical support, and surgical interventions with the goal of optimizing reproductive function.

A recent 2025 study conducted by Sánchez-Méndez and colleagues examined the outcomes of 1,310 infertile couples treated with NaProTechnology at a specialized fertility center over a five-year period.

The couples included those experiencing primary infertility, secondary infertility, or recurrent pregnancy loss. Many had complex medical histories, multiple contributing fertility conditions, and previous unsuccessful fertility treatments.

Of the couples studied, approximately 73% had primary infertility with an average infertility duration of 24 months, and nearly 30% reported previous assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments for infertility, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF).

The study found that 98.1% of couples received at least one infertility diagnosis, with an average of 2.5 distinct medical diagnoses per couple. These findings highlight the multifactorial nature of infertility, demonstrating that it commonly arises from multiple interacting conditions rather than a single isolated cause. This is a particularly important finding given nearly 30% of infertile couples are currenlty diagnosed with unexplained infertility – meaning no clear underlying cause can be identified to explain their reproductive issue.

Of the diagnoses made, hormonal disorders were identified as the most common (85.6%), and post-ovulatory hormone dysfunction was specifically noted in nearly 70% of the cases studied.

The study reported that 35.3% of couples achieved pregnancy resulting in a live birth with the newborn being discharged home (also known as the take-home baby rate).

After accounting for differences in treatment duration and patient follow-up, the adjusted cumulative take-home baby rate reached 62.1%.

Overall, the average time to conception was approximately 7 months and the average duration of treatment was close to 11 months.

Success rates were highest among younger women (83.7% at 18-30 years of age) but remained measurable across all age groups, including women over 40 years of age (24.4%).

One notable finding from the study is that many participants had already undergone previous fertility treatments without success, and one out of four couples (25.3%) who had previously attempted ART-fertility treatments achieved pregnancy with NaProTechnology.

In addition, the study found that even among couples with unfavorable prognostic factors, such as advanced maternal age, prolonged infertility, or previous failed ART attempts, a NaProTechnology approach resulted in meaningful pregnancy outcomes, suggesting that identifying and treating the underlying causes of infertility can benefit couples seeking medical support for their reproductive concerns.

True Health Matters Summary

For couples facing fertility issues, understanding the underlying causes can provide valuable insight into available treatment options. This study highlights the benefits of diagnosing and treating reproductive disorders with NaProTechnology.  It demonstrates that this approach to fertility care can help identify the underlying causes of reproductive issues, and highlights how this form of support can help certain couples achieve pregnancy while working cooperatively with the body’s natural reproductive system.
